5 Real Estate Related Movies: Comedy, Hauntings, Newlyweds, and Horror

Real estate orientated movies can make for some of the funniest movies because they resonate with so many. Home improvement ideas gone array, a best friend moving in with newlyweds, buying/selling a home a haunted house, and so forth. The movies can be a crazy place yet when looking at these movies truth is stranger than fiction and here is a follow up to Spooky houses in Snohomish County for more real estate related humor.

The Money Pit

1986 saw the release of The Money Pit. Starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long, The Money Pit featured a young couple buying a Colonial style home that needed some work to bring it back into grandeur. Little did Walter & Anna know, this home would become a living nightmare of repairs, lazy contractors, and … a money pit. The story is full of humor and my favorite is when Walter has fallen into the floor and held up by a rug for hours till Anna comes homes to rescue him.

You, Me and Dupree

Ever had a roommate that just didn’t work out? Well that is the case in the movie You, Me and Dupree. Owen Wilson (Dupree) is a good friend of a newly wed couple who settles into their new home when life intervenes and Dupree becomes, what appears to be a permanent, a fixture in their home. The house guest wears out his welcome to Carl, however, everyone else just doesn’t see it that way. Dupree gets caught up in being to friendly of a house guest yet it all eventually works out to create a fun newlywed comedy.

Open Thread: Real Estate Trolls and Anonymous Emails

Trolls, every social network community has them yet it is always frustrating to deal with them. Trolls make there presence known through their creative use of the English language, clever insults, and all around inaccuracy of information. For more clarification on what a online Troll looks like just take a stroll through YouTube.com comments and you’ll be an expert in no time.

Yesterday, I received an email from a person claiming to be a reader of the SeattleBubble.com. I read the SeattleBubble as the sites primary author, Tim, puts together well written posts which make mine look like a 5th grader wrote them. Occasionally I’ll comment yet most of the time I still feel like a rookie over there.

I admit, I’m not always perfect with opinions or analysis yet I try and do the best I can – this is a free country and the site hasn’t barred me yet from commenting. So, without further ado, here is Joe M. Maugh’s email.

Crazy neighbors. From time to time we all have had them, our friends or family lived next door to them, or just heard some stories that seem to come right out of the movie “The Burbs“.

Today, I was talking with a previous client and she shared her recent experiences. Living in the golf course community of Gleneagle in Arlington, one wouldn’t expect to find to much craziness. This is not the case of Julie (real name not used).

Snohomish County Property Tax & Assessments

People in Snohomish County are probably wondering why their property taxes have increases while the real estate market has softened. It is because the property taxes are based on the County’s evaluation and typically includes historic values of comparable properties.

Through the early 21st century people where watching their home values increase while property taxes stayed relatively low. Now in today’s real estate climate it is the opposite side of the spectrum. Property taxes are increasing while property values are decreasing. In the coming years this will change to reflect more accurate home value to property tax ratio because of the market correction Snohomish County has experienced
