Once known as the City of Smokestacks, Everett Washington has been going through many redevelopment projects to improve the city’s stigma and appeal. Everett has grown in population to become the State’s 6th largest city, the County’s 4th largest and the county seat. This growth has effected the commuting times and congestion but as we speak I-5, from Everett Mall Way to Highway 2, is going through a major upgrade with construction scheduled to be completed in 2008.

Everett is situated right off I-5 and on the Puget Sound. The city is home to the West Coast’s second largest marina, Everett Marina that is accessible via Marine View Drive. Many Snohomish County residents enjoy summer boating activities like sailing, fishing, crabbing and just relaxing in the sun. Everett also has views of Washington’s two mountain ranges, Cascade Mountain Range and Olympic Mountains and from certain locations within the city sunrises and sunrises can be seen. In addition to the scenic views, Everett is in excellent proximity to the County’s Ferry system, other major cities, employers and recreational activities.

Everett’s History

Everett has a deep and long history dating back many years with some of the first settlers being the Snohomish Indian Tribe. But in 1890, three people came together to form the Everett Land Company proceed with city development, Charles Colby, Colgate Hoyt and Henry Hewitt (Everett’s main Streets bear their names). Industry and labor were the foundations and have been the driving force and cultural heritage of the city.
