You might be thinking "Why am I receiving a lot of real estate cold calls?" and what "why is that?". Twice a year our brokerage, Keller Williams Realty Marysville, encourages its real estate brokers to participate in a 7 week prospecting course. The course teaches real estate brokers prospecting behaviors with special emphasis on communication and increasing an agent's number of contacts. Okay, but what does a real estate class have to do with cold calling?

Everything.

The class, titled BOLD, is a Keller Williams Realty, Inc (a national program) MAPS coaching program that helps real estate agents build their business and ramp up production. In the real estate industry, production is a constant point of emphasis because transitional brokerages are commissioned based models. The more production, the higher the income and to ramp up production a real estate broker needs to increase their number contacts; friends, family, potential customers, and referrals.

No contacts, no business.

But Back to the cold calls.

During BOLD, real estate brokers are encouraged to call expired listings, FSBOs (for sale buy owners), past clients, and contacts to see if anyone is interested in buying and/or selling a home, knows someone who wants to  buy or sell a home, and if they're ready to hire to the right real estate broker to accomplish the goal of buying and selling.

The agent's goal is to set an appointment with that contact. Makes sense yet cold calling still annoying.

How Do Agents Get My Phone Number?

If your home was ever listed or advertised on:

  • Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS)
  • A FSBO website with a phone number
  • Ever listed on Craigslist with a phone number
  • Drove by a home that a had FSBO sign in the yard

Mickie and I don't cold call. Why? We dislike being cold called ourselves. Instead, we focus on building relationships, sometime online before we do in person, and providing a high quality of service which people have confidence in referring.

Cold calling or not, its all personal preference and choice on how a real estate broker decides to manage their business.
