So, What Should You Do After Closing on a Home?
Get Excited: Purchasing a home is really big deal, lots of hard work, and should be celebrated. Yet, don't celebrate to hard as there is lots to do while planning the move.
Set Up New Mailing Address: The local post office can providee the necessary Change of Address forms to expedite the delivery of mail to your new home. You can make the Change of Address process faster and easier by notifying everyone send you mail of your new address and the date of your two week before the move. Many bills and statements provide an area for making address change.
Update Driver License: You'll want to visit the Wa Department of Licensing website and submit an address change, no charge. However, for a new license ID card there is a $20 fee - https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/addresschange.html.
Call and Setup Utilities: In your Purchase & Sale contract there are many important documents yet one that is commonly overlooked is Identification of Utilities (22K). This form details the companies who provide water, sewer, garage, gas, and internet service provider. This form is very helpful if you're moving from one city to another and the service providers are different.
Watch for Loan Payment Coupons/Slips: Your first payment, or two, will likely be paid to the company who granted you the loan. Then, that company will sell the loan to a larger financial institution who will service the loan from there out. Example: Wells Fargo. So watch the mail for payment coupons and possible upcoming changes. *Note: Your loan terms will not change when a loan is sold to another company.
The list can go on-and-on yet get the basics settle before tackling larger projects. Like remodeling. Save that one for later.
